The TAS Scholarship Programme
A limited number of scholarships are available and these fall into three categories: Academic, Merit and Music.
Scholarships are available to students who are either already in Secondary school (Years 8-11) or who are about to enter Secondary school (Year 7). All categories of scholarship are available to TAS students and to applicants from other schools.
Students are invited to apply for Academic, Merit and Music Scholarships and these are advertised in the media and on the school's website. Academic Scholarships are awarded solely on the performance in the ACER Scholarship examination. Music scholarships are awarded following auditions that are held at the school and Merit scholarship applications are assessed at the school against the criteria of level of overall involvement in the life of the school and of the community, academic performance and service.
A scholarship may range in value from between 25% and 75% remission on tuition costs (all other costs associated with attendance at TAS remain payable) and it is envisaged this concession will apply for the duration of the student's time at TAS. All scholarships are reviewed annually against the student's performance at school during that year.
TAS Academic Scholarships
TAS Academic Scholarships are awarded for exceptional academic achievement. Students applying will be in Year 7 and above.
An Academic Scholarship is offered on the basis of results achieved in the Co-operative Scholarship Testing Programme (CSTP) which is an independent examination conducted by ACER (Australian Council for Education Research). The CSTP is externally set and marked by ACER and students who wish to compete for this award at Levels 1, 2 or 3 register on-line directly with ACER. Outstanding results in this category may attract a remission on tuition fees of greater than 75% value. Academic scholars are expected to continue to be towards the top of their year group throughout their time at TAS. The tests are administered at the school.
The examinations are generally held in the February of the year preceding the year the scholarship is applied (eg, for a scholarship for 2014, the examination is held in February 2013). Applications for TAS Academic Scholarships for 2014 have closed.
TAS Merit Scholarships
TAS Merit Scholarships are awarded for all round merit. Students applying will be in Year 7 and above.
Application is made directly to the school and students should submit summary details outlining their achievements in a variety of areas: academic, music, drama, art, sport, community service (eg lifesaving), dance etc. Students applying for Merit Scholarships should be in the top third of their academic year. Merit scholars are expected to involve themselves in the full life of the school.
TAS Music Scholarships
TAS Music Scholarships are awarded following auditions and an interview with members of the school's Music Department. Students applying will be in Year 7 and above.
Music scholars are expected to contribute to the musical life of the school and to participate in Music Camps, school ensembles and other activities associated with the Music Department at TAS.
Applications
In applying for a scholarship, you are asked write a letter in support of your application and to submit an Application Form together with a brief resume which includes the student's recent academic results (report) and summary details outlining other relevant achievements the areas of academic, music, drama, art, sport, community service (eg lifesaving), dance, etc.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to meet with the Principal prior to any scholarship offers being made.
All scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the school.
Students not currently attending TAS and who apply for a TAS Scholarship are required to submit a TAS Enrolment Application form with their Scholarship Application. The associated Enrolment and Confirmation Fees will be payable on acceptance of a TAS Scholarship offer.
Both current and non-current students who are offered a TAS Scholarship are subject to the terms and conditions of the TAS Enrolment Application.
